Start with an easy search

Introduce the mat with food placed where your dog can find it, then gradually use more folds as your dog understands the activity. Count treats toward the day's normal food allowance. Supervise throughout, remove loose or damaged fabric promptly, and put the mat away if your dog starts chewing it rather than searching.
