Keep perishable foods refrigerated while thawing

A thawing tray does not make counter thawing safe. For meat, poultry and other perishables, use the refrigerator and contain drips so they cannot contact other foods. Wash the tray after handling raw ingredients.

Can I leave meat on it on the kitchen counter?

No. Perishable foods should not be thawed on the counter, even on a metal defrost tray. Plan ahead for refrigerator thawing.
